Serowe is the start line, not the finish.
Rhinos to the north. History in the village. The Kalahari on every horizon. You do not want to wait for a lift. You want to go.
Grab a car from us and go.

1. Khama Rhino Sanctuary: 25 minutes. Head north on the A14 towards Orapa. In about 25 km you reach 8,585 hectares of Kalahari sandveld. Black rhino. White rhino. Giraffe, zebra, cheetah, more than 30 mammal species and over 230 bird species. Self-drive game viewing is allowed. Go early. The light is better and the animals are out.
2. Serowe heritage loop: half a day. Start at the Khama III Memorial Museum. See the Bessie Head Room. Drive to the Kgotla and the Seretse Khama statue. Find the old London Missionary Society church, built with stones carried from Old Palapye. Then ask about a permitted visit to the Royal Cemetery on Thathaganyane Hill.
3. Palapye: 40 minutes. Take the A14 east. Fuel up, shop, or connect to the A1 highway. Gaborone is about 325 km south. Francistown is north.
4. Letlhakane and Orapa: 2 to 3 hours. Stay on the A14 all the way. Diamond country. Wide skies. Almost no traffic. [confirm whether rental terms allow this distance]
5. The sunset drive: 20 minutes. Sometimes the best trip is short. Drive west out of the village as the sun goes down. Pull over. Watch the sky change. Come back for a chef-prepared dinner.
